Yamamoto Ro-Biki Note – 5mm Cross Grid

The Ro-Biki Note is a notebook built around the paper inside it. Yamamoto Paper has spent decades sourcing, handling, and evaluating paper, and the New Chiffon Cream used in the Ro-Biki reflects that depth of knowledge — a warm, cream-toned sheet at 80 gsm that handles pencils, ballpoints, gel pens, and fountain pens with equal composure. Smooth without being slippery, with enough texture to give the writing instrument something to hold onto, it is the kind of paper that makes you want to fill the page.

The wax-impregnated kraft paper cover is the other defining characteristic of the Ro-Biki. It begins life with a smooth, slightly waxy feel, and gradually accumulates creases, marks, and a deepening tone as it is carried and used — each one a record of where the notebook has been. The 5mm cross grid offers a more open, versatile ruling than the 2mm — well suited to a mix of handwriting, quick sketches, diagrams, and freeform note-taking where a little structure is useful but not prescriptive. The saddle-stitch binding opens completely flat at 360 degrees and stays there without any resistance. At 91 × 210 mm, the notebook slips into the Ro-Biki Canvas Cover, a standard TRAVELER'S Notebook cover, and most jacket pockets.
